small tools, one committed a day

Coffee habit cost

A single cup feels like nothing. Bought every day, it quietly turns into one of the bigger numbers in your year. Enter what a coffee costs and how often you buy one, and see the habit as a weekly, monthly, and yearly total — then what the same money could grow to if it were invested instead. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

How it works

The yearly figure is the simple one everybody quotes: price × cups a day × 365. Buy on only some days — weekdays, say — and the days per week field scales it down (5 of 7 days keeps five-sevenths of the cost). The weekly number is the price times cups times days a week; the monthly number is the yearly total split twelve ways.

The eye-opener is the last line. Instead of spending the money, imagine paying the same monthly amount into an investment that returns the rate you set, compounded monthly, for the years you choose. That's the pot the habit quietly costs you — most of it from the cups, the rest from the growth you never got. It's a perspective tool, not a verdict: plenty of small pleasures are worth their price. This just shows you the price.
