Salary take-home calculator

Turn an annual gross salary into an estimated take-home (net) figure — yearly and monthly — for a single person with no dependants. Pick a country, enter the salary, and see the income tax and social contributions that come off.

⚠︎ Rough estimate — not tax advice.

This is a back-of-the-envelope model. It uses each country's headline income-tax bands plus the main employee contributions for a single person, no dependants, and ignores a lot: marital / filing status, pensions and salary sacrifice, student-loan repayments, regional / state / provincial taxes, low-income reliefs, surcharges, and the precise tax year. Real numbers will differ — treat this as a ballpark, and check official figures or a tax professional before relying on it.

How it works

Take-home = gross − income tax − social contributions. Income tax is applied marginally: each slice of your salary is taxed at its band's rate, not your whole salary at the top rate. On top of income tax, each country has its own payroll/social levies — US Social Security & Medicare, UK National Insurance, Australia's Medicare levy, Ireland's USC & PRSI, India's cess. The result shows every deduction, the effective rate (total taken ÷ gross), and the net figure per year and per month.

Country-specific simplifications are listed under Assumptions in each result — read them, because some are large (Canada here is federal tax only, for instance).
